When does school start and end?
The first day of school is on August 14, 2023. The last day of school for the 2023-2024 school year is May 24, 2024. For more dates and holidays, please download the Dallas ISD-approved calendar for the school year. You may access it here.
How does carpool work?
For morning drop off:
Cars should enter the carpool lane from the East side of the school off of Rosser Road, and turn west onto the north (front) side of the school (Calculus Drive). In the morning, all students should be dropped off at the main entrance to the school. Members of the staff will be outside in the mornings to open the car doors and escort students into the building. Please remain in your car, and do not park in the carpool lane. If you need to assist a student carrying something into the school, park on the west side of the school (Haydale Drive) and walk them to the front door.
For the safety of all students, please do not have children cross Calculus Drive in the middle of the block. Please do not drop off children on the sides or back of the school, where it is hard to see them for the staff monitoring carpool. Also, please respect the students arriving by bus on Haydale Drive. Do not enter, stop, or park in the designated bus lane area on Haydale Drive during morning or afternoon carpool.
For afternoon pick up:
For Drivers: Enter the carpool lane by heading north on Rosser Road and turning right onto Calculus Drive. Students will be released beginning at 3:15 pm. Members of the staff will use walkie talkies to communicate to teachers the release of the students. Parents will need to have their numbered tag hanging from the rear view mirror. The carpool signs are distributed at the Open House in the fall, and can also be requested at the front office.
This is a very busy time of day. Please help keep the line moving as quickly as possible by doing the following:
• Having your tag on your rear view mirror
• Keep moving (do not park in the lane)
• During loading, keep conversations with teachers to a minimum.
• Watch for pedestrians

DO NOT USE CELL PHONES IN SCHOOL ZONES - INCLUDING CARPOOL LINE. It is against the law to use cell phones in school zones when school zone lights are flashing.
For walkers: Students will be escorted to the back of the school (Boca Bay Avenue) at 3:15 pm and can be picked up by a parent or approved guardian there.
Does the school have a lost and found?
The Lost and Found is located in the front office, next to the entrance. This is the first place to look for missing garments, book bags, and lunch boxes. If you have lost something more valuable, please check in the main office.
Student items can look a lot like other students' items. Take the time to label your stuff. Label sweatshirts, jackets, sweaters, lunch bags, book bags, with your child’s name and class (ex. Gooch Gator, 2B). That way, if someone finds it out on the playground or in the library, they can immediately return it to your child.

How does Free Dress work?
On Fridays, children are allowed to wear a Gooch t-shirt or a college t-shirt and jeans instead of the uniform. Gooch t-shirts can be bought from the PTSA. Please check back for t-shirt sale dates.
There are a few other days throughout the year where the uniform is optional. These include college t-shirt day during Red Ribbon week, green t-shirt day on Earth Day, casual clothes for field day, etc. The specifics of these days will be provided prior to the event.

When can I meet with my child's teacher?
Teachers are available to the conference during their daily planning time. If you need to schedule a conference with your child's teacher, please contact the teacher in advance to schedule the conference in order to ensure he/she is ready to address your concerns. Please check back for conference times for the 2023-2024 school year.
What is the absence/tardy policy?
Tardiness:
Students need to be at school by 7:50 a.m. Students arriving after 8:10 a.m. will be considered tardy. After three tardies, a notice will be sent home to the parent for signature. If the problem persists, the parent will be reported to the district.
Absenteeism:
Absences need to be followed by an excuse note within 3 day of return from the days the child missed. The note must include the date(s) of the absence, reason for missing, and a parent signature.
Excessive absences and tardiness may result in a court hearing and/or fines for the parents.
Extraordinary Circumstances:
If your child is going to be absent for religious reasons, please notify Ms. Delgado in advance of the absence and provide a letter from your place of worship.
If your child has suffered illness or injury that will result in an absence greater than 3 days (ie: chicken pox, appendix surgery), please notify Ms. Delgado as soon as possible. She will work with the school nurse and counselor to help address health and academic concerns.
Please call Ms. Jaqueline Delgado directly with all absentee and tardy concerns. Her direct line is 972.794.2500.

Can I have lunch with my child?
Yes. Twice a month on the designated day for parents to come and eat with the scholars during their regularly scheduled lunch time. It is also ok to bring food in from the outside for your child. As with any visit to the building, you must check in at the office before heading to the cafeteria. Also, when testing is taking place, no parents are allowed in any portion of the building, including the cafeteria. Notifications will be sent out as those days approach.
Please check back for lunch times for the 2023-2024 school year.

Can I go on my child's field trip?
Typically, yes. However, there are a few things that must happen. First, all parents who want to interact with children at the school or during school-related activities must complete or renew the DISD volunteer form. Click here to register on VOLY.
Secondly, please confirm with the teacher or room parent that your attendance at any event is appropriate. And, typically, all entry fees and other costs associated with field trips will be the parents’ responsibility.

Can I bring food to my child's classroom?
To avoid unknowingly exposing students to food allergies, parents may not bring or send food items to school in celebration of birthdays. Food may be provided for the three class parties (the winter holidays, Valentine’s Day, and end of the year), but those offerings will be coordinated through the room parent.
